The excursion, dining and fishing trip to Yellowstone was hosted by Chuck and Cathy Guschewsky, dealer of the Fremont dealerships. Jim Ziegler outlines a road map to get your Dealership back on track

“What doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger. “When Friedrich Nietzsche first wrote those words back in the late 1800′s, I’m fairly sure he wasn’t referring to 21st century Car Dealerships surviving the incredible economic and financial hardships we’ve endured over the last few years.

Throughout this entire ordeal we’ve faced hurricanes that brought the economy to our knees, gasoline prices approaching $5.00 a gallon, the collapse of the nation’s financial center, corporate bankruptcies and government bailouts into the trillions.

Many good dealers folded and others were disenfranchised, many through no fault of their own, for no good reason. Floor planning for the dealers and financing for the customers completely dried up. Even if you could sell them, you couldn’t get the financing through the banks.

Personally, I had to completely reinvent my business plan and corporate vision. After 25 successful years we laid off all of our employees and closed our offices .

You Can’t Expense-Control Yourself into a Profit More than Once

Expense-Control made it possible for most survivors to make it to the other side. Me personally, I also got caught up in that “Last Man Standing” mentality as if we were throwing everything that was excess baggage off of the plane.

BUT…there comes a time when you have cut to the bone. Many of you cut too much and it cost you. You cannot lay down and stop doing business.
The service department carried us through the storm BUT now it’s the variable operations that are going to bring us back to life.

I have a saying…a philosophy that has gotten me through the worst situations, including recent crisis’s.

That’s where we are right now…all of us. The time for extreme caution has passed, and; although we need to be aware and on top of our business, it’s time to aggressively attack…
